Todd Parr Self Portraits

This year students in Room 23 have read many books by Todd Parr! Todd Parr has taught us about different families, that it's okay to make mistakes and it's okay to be who you are! Students created their own self portraits inspired by Todd Parr. Todd Parr uses simple shapes, simple lines and bright colours to create his books! We hope that you enjoy!

I can Help the Lorax!

Students in Room 23 learned about the Lorax and Earth Day! Students came up with ways that they can help the earth and then created their own Truffula Trees just like in the Lorax. To create our Truffula Trees, we used paper straws, tissue paper, glue and our pencils.

I can Create a Rainbow!

Students in Room 23 have been learning how to create colour! We did a directed drawing of a pot of gold for St. Patrick's Day. Students then had to paint their rainbow using only the primary colours (red, blue and yellow). Students created colours on their own. Their challenge was to see if they could add all 6 colours to their rainbow. Take a look at their awesome rainbow! Later we also wrote about what we might ask the leprechaun for instead of gold if we caught him! I loved hearing all of their answers!

P.S. You can always click on the photo to make it bigger!

We are learning to copy sentence starters from the board, use proper finger spaces and use kid writing! Kid writing means that we are writing down the sounds that we hear, and it's okay if we miss some! Take a look at all of our awesome detailed pictures featuring our favourite cat, Pete!

We know that bears, snakes, groundhogs, frogs, turtles and raccoons are just a few of the many animals that sleep through the winter in order to survive! To end our hibernation study, students used their knowledge of hibernation to decide if they would like to hibernate themselves! Take a look at their directed drawings and their answers!

Students used their knowledge of patterns to independently paint their own pattern on their mitten! Take a look to see how well they did. Every student chose which pattern they wanted to create, which colours they would use and it was their job to make sure they were following their pattern without the help of an adult.

Students in Room 23 have been learning all about the word unique! We have been learning that unique means that we are all different! We know that it's okay to have different hair and skin colours and to like different things! We also learned that our names are also part of what makes us unique. We have been reading lots of different books about being unique, including Only One You by Linda Kranz.

Take a look below at the fish we created inspired by Linda Kranz, and the cool name art we made!
