Dressing for the Weather

It seems to be getting colder outside as we move into November. Parents please make sure that your child comes to school dressed for the weather. The children will continue to go outside for lunch recess so it is important that they are wearing a winter coat, boots (if there is snow on the ground), mittens and a hat. It is extremely important that all of your child's items are clearly labelled with their name and please take the time to show your child what their items look like. Many children have coats that have been purchased from Walmart and Costco so many children are coming to school with the exact same winter clothing. It is extremely important that your child's coat is labelled so that it does not get mixed up with another student's coat.

The classroom teachers only have a short time to get 22 children ready for lunch recess and for dismissal at the end of the day, so students need to be able to get dressed quickly and independently. Please practice with your child at home how to put on their outside clothing.

The children should be able to put on their own snow pants, coats (fasten the zippers), boots, hat and mittens. If your child has gloves please show them how to place their fingers in each finger hole.

When the children are getting dressed it is very important that they do not put on their mittens first. If they wear their mittens they are not able to put on the rest of their outdoor clothing. Please follow the poster that has been posted above. When the kindergarten children are at school they are taught to put their snow pants on first, then their boots, then their coat (fasten the zipper), then their hat, put their backpack on their back and lastly put on their mittens.

We appreciate your support in building your child's independence.
